Our philosophy

Levels and salaries do not depend on seniority. They depend on expectations. Those who perform beyond their expectations are eligible for the next level.

Developer levels

Associate Software Developer I

Salary: 60 000 FCFA

Expectations

  • Independently produces code that follows our coding guidelines (Effective Dart, MVVM/MVC, etc.).
  • Requires some assistance to produce testable code (necessary abstractions for unit tests, decoupling, etc.).
  • Requires some assistance to use software development tools such as: git, vscode, debuggers, firebase console, command line interfaces.

How we grade developers

Producing code that works and follows conventions no longer proves, on its own, a developer's level. This grid measures what they're able to demonstrate — explain, decide, recover — not just what they produce.

The competency axes

Convention compliance

Ability to produce code that follows the project's patterns, and to spot deviations.

Architecture & testability

Ability to explain why we decouple, and what it protects.

Debugging

Ability to explain the cause of a bug, not just make it disappear.

Tools

Ability to explain how tools work (for example, getting out of a broken Git state alone).

Collaboration

Ability to spot real problems in other people's code.

Initiative & mentorship

Ability to improve the system, and to help others grow.

The levels

Associate Software Developer II

Capable of judging the code they produce.

Salary: 80 000 FCFA

  • Convention compliance: Spot when code drifts from the project's conventions, and fix it.
  • Architecture & testability: Explain why an abstraction exists, what it protects, and what would break without it.
  • Debugging: Explain the cause of a bug and why the fix addresses it (not just that it hides it).
  • Tools: Get themselves out of a failed rebase, a conflict, or a bad commit, alone.
  • Collaboration: Ask relevant questions and leave relevant comments in review, occasionally.

Associate Software Developer III

Capable of applying that judgment to other people's code.

Salary: 120 000 FCFA

  • Convention compliance: Spot when code drifts from the project's conventions, and fix it.
  • Architecture & testability: Explain why an abstraction exists, what it protects, and what would break without it.
  • Debugging: Explain the cause of a bug and why the fix addresses it (not just that it hides it).
  • Tools: Get themselves out of a failed rebase, a conflict, or a bad commit, alone.
  • Collaboration: Actively participate in reviews: spot a real problem — a misplaced dependency, a missing test, a forgotten edge case.

Software Developer

Capable of improving the system on their own.

Salary: 220 000 FCFA

  • Convention compliance: Spot when code drifts from the project's conventions, and fix it.
  • Architecture & testability: Explain why an abstraction exists, what it protects, and what would break without it.
  • Debugging: Explain the cause of a bug and why the fix addresses it (not just that it hides it).
  • Tools: Get themselves out of a failed rebase, a conflict, or a bad commit, alone.
  • Collaboration: Actively participate in reviews: spot a real problem — a misplaced dependency, a missing test, a forgotten edge case.
  • Initiative & mentorship: Occasionally propose and implement relevant, realistic improvements: refactoring, forward-looking features, new approaches.

Senior Software Developer

Capable of being a driving force for the codebase and the people.

Salary: 280 000 FCFA

  • Convention compliance: Spot when code drifts from the project's conventions, and fix it.
  • Architecture & testability: Explain why an abstraction exists, what it protects, and what would break without it.

  • Collaboration: Actively participate in reviews: spot a real problem — a misplaced dependency, a missing test, a forgotten edge case.
  • Initiative: Actively propose and implement improvements — a regular, proactive stance.
  • Mentorship: Mentor juniors: guide them on debugging, tools, and testing, and genuinely help them grow.

How we decide on a promotion

The question is never “what is their absolute level,” but “can they now do alone, today, what required help a month ago?”

  1. 01

    PR walkthrough

Line by line: why this abstraction? What breaks if I change this?

  2. 02

    Timed bug

A bug in existing code — then they explain the cause and why the fix addresses it.

  3. 03

    Requirement change mid-flight

“What if this also needs to work offline? What if we relocate the database?” Someone who understands adapts; someone who copied without understanding has to start over.

  4. 04

    Code review

Watching them review a peer's pull request in real time: do they spot real problems, or just style nits?
